To give you an idea of the amount of study time students have here at Birkdale High School, we've outlined the overall curriculum in this section. Please see the individual department sections for more detail about the skills taught for each subject.
Students study a range of subjects over a two week timetable. Students are taught in a mixture of banded classes and form groups, depending on year group. Numbers in (brackets) indicates the number of periods the lesson is allocated over the two weeks.

During Year 9, students choose their options ready for Key Stage 4.
Students take the core subjects [English Language, English Literature, Mathematics, Science, RE, Careers and PE] in Years 10 and 11. They have a choice of four options in which they will sit a final examination at the end of Year 11.

You want to have a broad and balanced curriculum that plays to your strengths and interests, and meets your needs in the short, medium and long term. It is important to strike a balance between subjects you like, subjects you are good at and subjects you need.
